Every Single House Dem Votes Against Protecting Women’s Sports

House Democrats voted against a bill that bans transgender girls from competing on women’s sports teams.

Despite every single Democrat voting against the measure, the U.S. House of Representatives was still able to pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in a 219-203 vote.

Democratic lawmakers argued that the legislation somehow “bullies” and “belittles” transgender children.

“This bill is about bullying children,” said Ohio Rep. Greg Landsman. “Stop bullying children.”

“House Republicans are choosing to bully and belittle trans children,” said California Rep. Robert Garcia. “This is about attacking a small group of children, and it is shameful.”

Meanwhile, Republican North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx shot back and said that the conservative proponents of the bill simply want to protect the rights of young girls and women in athletics.

“We hate no one,” Foxx said. “It is ridiculous that we have had to stand here today to defend the rights of women and girls to participate in sports against other women and girls and they not being taken advantage of by biological males.”

Others claim that the Biden administration’s rule changes would overturn the rights women gained in sports when Congress implemented Title IX in the 1970s.

“Congress in 1972 created Title IX to protect women’s sports to enable women to have an equal playing field in athletics,” said GOP Florida Rep. Greg Steube, one of the bill’s sponsors. “In worship to their trans idols, the administration wants to flip that on its head. It is insane.”

This comes as transgender athletes have been the subject of debate about whether biologically born male athletes should compete against naturally born women in sporting events.

Last month, House Republicans advanced H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act to the House floor. The measure aims to “ensure the rights of parents are honored and protected in the Nation’s public schools.”

“It doesn’t matter [what] the color of your skin [is] or your wealth, when you have a child that is the most important thing in your life… one thing we know in this country, education is the great equalizer. We [want parents] to feel empowered and that’s what we’re doing here,” said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
