President Joe Biden launched his 2024 reelection campaign with an inflaming statement that right-wing extremists are the greatest threat to America in a video message publicized by his campaign on Tuesday.
In the octogenarian president’s statement, who once referred to himself as a “bridge” to the Democratic party’s bench of younger leaders, defied those who suggested that he should quit considering for a reelection and instead hand the leadership position to someone capable of uniting the party against President Donald Trump and supporters whom Biden called “MAGA extremists.”
“Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There’s nothing more important, nothing more sacred. That’s been the work of my first term: to fight for our democracy… But you know, around the country MAGA extremists are lining up to take on those bedrock freedoms. Cutting Social Security that you’ve paid for your entire life while cutting taxes for the very wealthy. Dictating what healthcare decisions women can make. Banning books and telling people who they can love. All while making it more difficult for you to be able to vote,” Biden stated as seen in the video.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job. https://t.co/V9Mzpw8Sqy pic.twitter.com/Y4NXR6B8ly— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) April 25, 2023
In his caption, he briefly explained his reason as to why he wants to run as the president of the United States again.
He encouraged people to join him saying that every generation must face a time when it is necessary to fight for democracy and one’s fundamental rights and freedoms.
The president is seen as a weak incumbent who encounters opposition within his own party by most standards. A majority of Democrats indicated they would support President Biden at the polls, but almost half have also said they do not want him to run for re-election.
Real Clear Politics reports that the weighted average popularity rating of the president among all voters is 42%, and an appalling 70% of all likely voters oppose Biden’s reelection.
Furthermore, the majority of the polarized American voters have expressed desire in seeing a new face emerge from either or both parties as they are mainly negative toward both the president and former president Donald Trump.
