Federal prosecutors are reportedly close to making a decision on charging First Son Hunter Biden with tax fraud and firearms charges.
According to the Washington Post, attorneys for Hunter met with representatives of the Justice Department last week to discuss the ongoing investigation. Chris Clark, who has been defending Hunter for years, and numerous other lawyers were present. They were seen heading into the DOJ headquarters early Wednesday.
Hunter has long been represented by Clark, a well-known lawyer in Washington. As an effective litigator with a solid track record, he has represented clients in numerous high-profile government investigations and prosecutions.
Representatives from the DOJ’s tax division and the Delaware US Attorney’s office, led by David Weiss, were also present at the meeting.
This marks a significant advancement because it represents a turning point in the probe into the international commercial practices of the Biden family.
On Tuesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland told Congress that he stands by his testimony and anticipates the decision on Hunter.
“I stand by my testimony, and I refer you to the U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware, who is in charge of this case and capable of making any decisions that he feels are appropriate,” Garland said.
The investigation into the Bidens’ family business is heating up, as House Oversight Chair James Comer recently subpoenaed banks for records relating to the Bidens.
“The Oversight Committee has subpoenaed and obtained financial records related to the Biden family’s influence peddling. These documents solidify our understanding of several areas of concern and have opened new avenues of investigation about the Biden family’s business schemes,” Comer said earlier this month.
Bank records obtained from the House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s subpoena show that State Energy HK Limited, a company connected to CEFC China Energy, wired $3 million to Rob Walker, a member of the Biden family, in March 2017. Walker then distributed the money over the course of about three months.
It also appears that first son Hunter received payments totaling about $610,000 as part of the 2017 agreement, while first brother James Biden received payments totaling about $360,000, and the president’s daughter-in-law Hallie Biden received payments totaling about $25,000.
