Hillary Clinton made headlines once again after describing the GOP as “more of a cult than a political party at this point” during her recent appearance on the podcast Pod Save America on Tuesday, June 13,
Since the indictment of former President Donald Trump on 37 counts, Clinton has not held back in using dark humor to mock her one-time opponent, sharing memes, making observations, and delivering snarky comments.
“I do think it’s odd, to the point of being absurd, how that is their only response,” Clinton said. “They refuse to read the indictment.
“They refuse to engage with the facts. There’s nothing new about that. And what they refuse to admit is: This is on a track about him, not about anybody else, no matter how much they try to confuse people and how much they try to raise extraneous issues,” she claimed, adding that “it’s going to be fascinating, I guess, in a bizarre and sad way to watch them spin themselves.”
Moreover, Clinton dismissed renewed calls to “lock her up,” claiming that “when in doubt,” Republicans always go to that response.
She also argued that “efforts to defend this man are truly beyond anything that I ever thought possible in our country. … It is so profoundly disturbing how this could have been the break.”
“This could have been the opportunity to say, Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us. We really appreciate it, but this is kind of serious, and so we’re not going to continue to defend you,” she continued.
On Friday, June 9, she took to Twitter and posted an old photograph of herself sporting a black unstructured Dad cap. The cap displayed the words “But Her Emails” in bold pink lettering on the front visor.
Critics have accused Clinton of reveling in the fact that Trump faced charges while she escaped penalties for mishandling classified information on her private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State under former President Barack Obama.
However, defenders argue that reports from the Department of Justice and a statement from the FBI found no evidence of willful mishandling of classified information on Clinton’s part.
During her conversation with Jon Lovett, the host of Pod Save America, in front of a live audience, Clinton received a special gift from the podcast team. They presented her with a t-shirt that humorously read “Totally Impartial Potential Juror,” with the word “Crooked” printed in smaller, lighter font below it. “Crooked” was the nickname Trump had given Clinton during their contentious 2016 election campaign. The gift elicited laughter from Clinton.
Lovett brought up the fact that some Republicans appeared to be responding to Trump’s indictment by seeking ways to prosecute Clinton. While Clinton responded with humor, she also expressed her perplexity at the GOP’s continued defense of Trump, rather than seizing what she views as a golden opportunity for the party to move on from the former president.
