Tragedy struck near Germany’s iconic Neuschwanstein castle as an American man was arrested for allegedly assaulting two U.S. tourists, resulting in the death of one of the women.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near the Marienbruecke, a bridge known for its breathtaking view of the castle.
Authorities revealed that the 30-year-old man encountered the two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, while on a hiking path.
Using deception, he convinced them to follow him onto a trail that led to a viewpoint. Once there, the man launched a physical attack on the younger woman. When her companion intervened, he choked her and pushed her down a steep slope.
The assailant then proceeded to make an apparent attempt to sexually assault the 21-year-old before pushing her down the slope as well. The fall from a height of nearly 165 feet resulted in her landing close to her friend.
Rescue teams were dispatched to save both women. The 22-year-old, who was responsive, was transported to a hospital, while the 21-year-old, who sustained serious injuries, was airlifted to another hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries overnight.
Shortly after fleeing the scene, the suspect was apprehended by authorities in the vicinity.
A witness video circulating online depicted the man, dressed in a T-shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap, being led away in handcuffs by the police.

Neuschwanstein, situated in southern Bavaria near the Austrian border, stands as one of Germany’s most renowned tourist destinations.
The castle, initiated by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1869 but left incomplete upon his death in 1886, remains a captivating symbol of architectural grandeur.
