SUV Plows Into New Hampshire Restaurant, Injuring At Least 14 During Frightening Lunchtime

At least 14 people were injured after an SUV plowed through a restaurant in New Hampshire on Sunday, according to reports.

The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. when the SUV crashed into the Looney Bin Bar and Grill in Laconia. Authorities immediately responded to the scene.

Firefighters began to triage the individuals involved to find the victims who had the worst injuries. Around 14 people were taken to local hospitals, while 20 more were evaluated and did not require hospitalization.

While the other transfers were for lacerations, contusions, and other non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department said that two of the patients transported had significant lower leg injuries.

“There were a lot of people inside due to it being lunchtime and a holiday weekend,” Laconia Captain Chad Vaillancourt said. “The great response from our mutual aid partners allowed us to help many injured people in a short amount of time.”

The restaurant, meanwhile, sustained “significant damage” due to the car’s impact. Police Chief Matt Canfield said that a three-car crash in front of the restaurant sent one of the cars crashing into the building.

Local officials believe that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and the building has been deemed safe.

According to the Brownsville Police Department, the victims died at the scene, while at least 11 others have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The driver, who was identified as a Hispanic man, has been arrested and charged with reckless driving as investigations continue. Witnesses reportedly detained the driver as he tried to run away and held him until police arrived. All seven people who died in the crash were migrants, authorities confirmed.

Authorities have not provided any other information about the driver, although he underwent medical treatment at an area hospital.

The crash happened outside Brownsville’s Ozanam Center, a shelter for migrants and homeless people in the region. The migrants were waiting at a city bus stop near the center when the accident occurred. It is unclear whether the shelter had any relevance to the incident.
