A new survey from the Morning Consult revealed how Republicans feel about potential candidates for the next presidential election. The former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, didn’t get much love in this poll.
According to the survey, lots of Republicans still really like former US President, Donald Trump to win the seat. Around 71% of those who were asked had a good impression of him.
Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis came next, with 63% of people having a positive opinion of him. But some folks, about 25%, weren’t too keen on these two. Trump got 26% of not-so-good votes, while DeSantis got 23%.
Another person who did pretty well was Vivek Ramaswamy, a businessman. Almost half of the people asked (48%) had a positive view of him, while only 13% felt the opposite. However, not a lot of folks know who he is. Around 32% of people either didn’t have an opinion or didn’t even know him.
Now, the not-so-liked group had some familiar faces. Former Vice President Mike Pence reportedly got a thumbs-down from 39% of those surveyed. He’s been pretty critical of his old boss, Donald Trump, lately.
“Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States,” Pence wrote in a tweet on Thursday in response to Trump’s indictment.
However, the title of the least liked candidate goes to Chris Christie. He used to be the governor of New Jersey and is running for president. But in this survey, a total of 55% of Republicans didn’t like him much. Only 24% felt positively about him. Some Americans (13%) had never even heard of him, while others 17% didn’t have an opinion.
Christie recently claimed that he could no longer be friends with Trump anymore and endorse him if the latter secures nomination.
“I think, ya know, some of the stuff he’s called me over the last few months, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. And that’s sad, but it is the truth of the matter.” Christie claimed.
A few other candidates didn’t do too well either. Asa Hutchinson, who used to be the governor of Arkansas, Doug Burgum from North Dakota, former congressman Will Hurd, and mayors Francis Suarez and Chris Christie all got more negative votes than positive ones.
Even though a good number of people didn’t like Mike Pence (39% gave him a thumbs-down), more people still felt positively about him, with an 11% higher net positive rating.
