Georgia State Senator Colton Moore is taking steps to initiate the impeachment of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, citing allegations against former President Trump as the basis for his action.
Senator Moore declared his intent on social media, asserting that an emergency session is necessary to examine the conduct of Fani Willis, whom he accuses of pursuing a political agenda aimed at Trump.
He emphasized the urgency of the situation and stated that he cannot simply observe as prosecutors with left-leaning ideologies target political adversaries.
“As a Georgia State Senator, I am officially calling for an emergency session to review the actions of Fani Willis,” Moore said in a statement.
“America is under attack. I’m not going to sit back and watch as radical left prosecutors politically TARGET political opponents,” he stated.
In a letter addressed to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Senator Moore, alongside other elected representatives, formally requested a special session to address the actions of Fani Willis.
The letter cited Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), certifying the need for an immediate convening to review and respond to the situation involving Willis.
“We, the undersigned, being duly elected members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate, and comprising 3/5 of each respective house, pursuant to Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), hereby certify to you, in writing, with a copy to the Secretary of State, that in our opinion an emergency exists in the affairs of the state, requiring a special session to be convened under that section, for all purposes, to include, without limitation, the review and response to the actions of Fani Willis.”
Fani Willis held a press conference following the issuance of charges by a Fulton County grand jury against former President Trump and multiple co-defendants.
Willis granted Trump and the other individuals indicted until August 25 to surrender to law enforcement, with the expectation of a trial within the subsequent six months.
The campaign associated with Trump responded to the charges by directing public attention towards Willis, mentioning her family’s history and affiliations.
The campaign highlighted her father’s connection to the Black Panther movement and cited a 2021 Time magazine article along with information from the Fulton County government website.
