Answers Republicans Are Demanding From Biden

The House Oversight Committee has released a document detailing the objectives of the Republican Party’s impeachment investigation concerning President Joe Biden.

Late last month, the committee shared a summary of the inaugural impeachment hearing at the Rayburn House Office Building.

“At the hearing, witnesses testified that evidence uncovered has passed the threshold to open an impeachment inquiry into the conduct of President Joe Biden. While Democrat members engaged in political stunts, Republican members highlighted evidence … showing President Joe Biden lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation in his family’s corrupt international and domestic business schemes,” the committee noted in its report.

“Under an impeachment inquiry, the House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means will continue to follow the evidence to determine whether President Biden committed impeachable offenses under the U.S. Constitution,” the report continued.

Meanwhile, Special Counsel Robert Hur will continue his investigation of Biden’s classified documents scandal. Hur’s office is reportedly trying to uncover how the then-vice president was updated about highly sensitive issues by gathering records from the early Obama administration.

Hur has conducted his high-stakes probe of a sitting president discreetly since his appointment in January, mostly avoiding public attention, in contrast to special counsel Jack Smith and the commotion surrounding his investigations into former President Donald Trump.

Witnesses told the outlet that investigators have questioned them about the use of safes and cabinets, as well as email conversations that date back as far as 2010. Authorities reportedly searched for documents dating back to Biden’s time in the Senate.

The White House has reiterated that the Biden administration has cooperated with Hur’s investigation from the outset.

“The president has been interviewed as part of the investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Hur,” said White House Counsel’s Office spokesman Ian Sams. “The voluntary interview was conducted at the White House over two days, Sunday and Monday, and concluded Monday.”

“As we have said from the beginning, the president and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation. We would refer other questions to the Justice Department at this time,” Sams added.
