Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly talked over the phone with Russian President Vladmir Putin amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas.
Putin recently announced Russia’s steps to “facilitate the normalization of the situation and prevent further escalation” between the two parties.
The Kremlin’s press service also reported that the Russian leader had informed Netanyahu about what Russia was planning to help normalize the situation, prevent further escalation of violence, and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli prime minister, meanwhile, had reportedly managed to maintain “warm communication” with Putin.
Although Russia has not yet designated Hamas as a terrorist organization, the Baltic State is no stranger to Islamic terrorism. In the town of Beslan, separatist Chechen Muslims slaughtered over 330 people while holding an entire elementary school hostage. Nearly 200 of them were kids.
This comes after the Iran-backed Hamas attacked Israel and invaded towns along the Gaza border earlier this month, killing at least 700 people. As of Wednesday, the death toll has risen to 1,200, according to IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus.
Putin has expressed his condolences to the families of the Israelis, condemning “any actions that victimize civilians, especially women and children”.
The attack prompted Israel to declare war against the terrorist group with a ruthless aerial campaign that has flattened homes, schools, medical institutions, and government buildings in the Gaza Strip.
U.S. President Joe Biden has since pledged his support for Israel, with his administration already moving military units to the country as well as supplying them with munitions and interceptors to ensure the Iron Dome defense system has enough supplies.
“We stand with Israel. We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack,” he said in remarks from the State Dining Room. “There is no justification for terrorism. There is no excuse.”
“Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination. Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people,” he continued.
