A lot of us use our phones and tablets every day, from the time we wake up until we go to sleep, and it’s bound to hurt us in some way. Eye strain is one of the affects that has been shown. You may have heard of blue light glasses. They are a popular item on social media because they help reduce the effects of blue light from computers.
However, this might not really make a difference based on the glasses you choose. The Journal of Medical Science just reported that people who use gadgets a lot may be getting digital eye strain. If you have this, you might get headaches, blurry vision, burning eyes, or feel tired.
Danny Matthew, a doctor at Vision Network, said, “When blue light enters the eye, it scatters before reaching the retina. This makes our eyes work harder to focus and process the light from our device screens.” “The result is visual strain and fatigue known as digital eye strain,” he said.
Within two hours of being exposed, blue light can have effects on your eyes that cause the above symptoms.
There are some things that experts say you can do to reduce the amount of eye strain you’re feeling. Putting your computer or phone far away from your eyes or even just turning down the light can help, especially if you are in a dark room. Also, remember to look away from the screen every so often to give your eyes a break.
You can buy eye drops to help with dry eyes caused by looking at a screen and Blue Light glasses to protect your eyes from the blue light that is given off. You need to make sure that the glasses won’t make it harder to see, because some blue light glasses do that. Matthew says, “For instance, a product might block more light than UV/blue wavelengths, which would make it hard to see in some lighting conditions.”
Following these tips can help reduce the effects of digital eye strain, which happens to a lot of people these days because they use gadgets so much.
