The “American Dream” is what drew many people to this country. It’s what the country was founded on. But there was a study not long ago that showed how people felt about the American Dream 14 years ago compared to how they feel about it now. The results are shocking.
Some people say that the “American Dream” is “if you work hard, you’ll get ahead.” There was a poll not long ago to find out how many people still thought this was true.
In 2010, 50% of people said that the American Dream was still possible. Now, only 27% say that. Among those polled, 18% said the “American Dream” didn’t exist, while 52% said it did exist in the past but no longer does. This means that 69% of people today think it doesn’t exist.
These numbers are different for people of different ages and races. Having said that, the poll results showed that African Americans have a generally negative view of the “American Dream.” A lot of people, 32% of African Americans, said they thought the American Dream never came true.
In addition to differences based on race and age, there were also differences based on income. 18% of people who made less than $50,000 a year said they still believed in the American Dream. Some people, like those making between $50,000 and $100,000, still believe in the American Dream. Those making more than $100,000 also believe in it, with 33% saying it was still true.
The numbers aren’t always the same because of things like people’s economic views, political differences, general financial situation, and quality of life. Because of differences in background and demographics, the results were very different. However, it looks like Americans are less optimistic about the “American Dream” now than they were 14 years ago.
From January 4 to January 8, 2024, this poll was taken online through an Ipsos Knowledge Panel based on chance.
