Artificial intelligence is one of the most advanced technologies right now, and this has caused a lot of worry about what it can do and how it might affect people.
Recently, a lot of people have been talking about whether AI is better than humans or not. Different experts have different opinions on the matter.
Phil Siegel, the founder of the Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation, said, “If you define it as doing intellectual but repetitive and limited problems, they are already smarter.” The best people at chess and go are like computers. Soon, we’ll be able to teach them how to do everything like that. “Some examples of AI that is smarter than humans are analyzing laws, writing simple documents, and making pictures whenever someone wants them.”
A full poll of about 2,000 AI experts was done. They were asked if they thought AI would be able to do the tasks given and, if so, when they would be smart enough to do them. The range of these tasks was huge, from writing a history paper to being able to automate all human work.
A lot of these experts gave different answers, but most of them said that the history paper could be finished in the next two years. Still, most AI experts said that the day when AI does all the work of humans is still a long way off, and it doesn’t look like it will happen any time soon.
Siegel spoke out and said that AI might be able to do these things, but maybe not as well or as much as people could do them. “They know how to write short stories now, but to write a bestseller, they need to learn a lot more about people.” They can write a movie, but it might not be a big hit. “They can write a scientific paper, but they can’t follow all the steps to do a complicated experiment at the atomic level at a supercollider,” Siegel said.
They said that AI systems might be able to do this in the long run, but they need a lot of data to learn how to be that smart. As long as we keep teaching AI how to learn new things and take in knowledge, some experts do think that one day it will be smarter than humans.
