The Senate has finally passed a package of help for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This is something they had been talking about for weeks but wouldn’t agree on.
It was said on Tuesday that the Senate finally passed a $95 billion aid plan for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. But, as was agreed upon in the beginning, it doesn’t include any aid to help with the border problem. The bill passed with a vote of 70 to 29, but many people are still not sure how useful the package will be.
The House of Representatives will pass the bill, but some members, like the House GOP and former President Donald Trump, didn’t like that the help wasn’t in the form of a loan here.
A lot of Democrats were against the bill. For example, Bernie Sanders still says he doesn’t want to send more money to Israel. This was also brought up by Peter Welch, another Democrat from Vermont. He said, “I cannot in good conscience support sending billions of additional taxpayer dollars for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s military campaign in Gaza.”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine thanked people on X for supporting the help that was being sent to Ukraine. “I am thankful to @SenSchumer, @LeaderMcConnell, and all US Senators who have backed continuing to help Ukraine in our fight for freedom, democracy, and the values we all hold dear,” the post said.
“For us in Ukraine, continuing US help helps protect people from Russian terror.” “That means life will go on in our cities and peace will win over war,” he said.
A lot of people are confused about border control, which isn’t covered by this bill, even though some people are against the help. Government officials are blaming people who are trying to find a solution. Democrats say that Republicans voted against these border control bills so that they could “preserve the border crisis” until the election.
