The US has dropped eight spots on the list of the happiest countries and no longer even makes it into the top 20.
A new Gallup poll shows that the U.S. is now ranked lower than Canada, Kuwait, Israel, Lithuania, and the United Arab Emirates. The top 10 countries are the same as they were in the last study.
The study said that Costa Rica and Kuwait are both new to the top 20.
The United States fell out of the top twenty because young Americans are generally less happy. The report said, “For the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, happiness has decreased in all age groups, but especially for the young, so much so that the young are now the least happy age group.”
In addition, they said that the main reason people are feeling this way is the rising number of lonely people and how that affects their brains and body. People say that Millennials are twice as likely as older generations to be lonely. In order to write this report, a lot of people were asked to fill out a poll about how happy and satisfied they were with their lives.
They are looking at many things about these countries, such as the economy, life expectancy, freedom, charity, social support, and corruption. At the moment, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Australia are at the top of the list.
Countries like Zambia, Malawi, Lebanon, and Afghanistan were among the least happy.
