Because of solar storms, people in parts of the US and UK are seeing the Northern Lights that wouldn’t usually see them.
From the start of the week on, people in the United States as far as the Midwest will be able to see the aurora borealis, which is also known as the Northern Lights. Usually, you could only see these lights in the Arctic Circle. But this time, you’ll be able to see them in many places, even Switzerland.
The aurora australis can be seen in Australia and further west. This is something that can only be seen in the southern hemisphere. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology’s space weather predicting center sent out a message saying that the lights would be visible.
Coronal mass ejections, which happen when clouds of plasma are thrown out of the sun’s atmosphere, are what cause solar storms. The particles that are sent out hurtle toward Earth and make a cool show when they hit the atmosphere. People usually see the lights in northern Canada and along the coast of Antarctica. However, these places can change, and people can see the lights in other places, especially during a solar storm.
A scientist at Macquarie University named Dr. Stuart Ryder said that this year is the peak of the solar cycle. He said, “It’s much more likely to send out huge energy flares and huge amounts of charged particles that are radiating away from the sun.” People say they see blues, yellows, and even purples, but their main colors are green or red.
They said that people might not be able to see the lights if they are in the same place where they can see the eclipse. This is because the lights will be blocked by the sun’s lowering brightness.
