Weapons Continue to Be Sent by the United States Despite the Ceasefire Resolution

The UN Security Council resolution called for an instant end to the fighting, the release of all hostages, and the sending of a lot of aid to the people there. The motion passed because the US did not vote on it, which meant that it did pass.

So, even though a resolution was passed and a truce was being worked on, the US has still been sending bombs and planes to Israel. No work has stopped here; there was just a pause because an MK-84 bomb that could destroy an apartment building was approved.

Critics were angry that the US did not stop making or sending weapons to Israel during this time, and they made it clear that they did not agree with Biden’s choice. A lot of people think it’s funny that Biden would call for an end to the fighting and send help, but he would also give weapons to Israel.

Rae Abileah, a Jewish American peace organizer, used a powerful comparison: “It’s like putting a Band-Aid over someone’s tiny finger cut while you keep stabbing them in the chest.”

Many times, people have asked officials why the U.S. keeps sending weapons to Israel without making help based on Israel’s behavior. Most of the answers say that the U.S. wants Israel to protect more people, but that they shouldn’t do anything that would make Israel less able to defend itself because that’s against U.S. policy.

People close to Biden have said that they don’t think the help and weapons being sent to Israel will change. An official from the Biden administration said, “He is not going to do it. He fundamentally believes Israel has a right to defend itself, and he believes that in his heart.”

Aaron David Miller, a former State Department official, said, “Biden thinks of himself as part of Israel’s story because he has been involved for so long.”
