Partners in Aukus have said that their military move toward Japan is not meant to build “Jaukus.”
There was just a news that the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia would be working together with Japan. This statement from Australia comes right after that. The European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States all said they wanted a more advanced military “to support stability and security in the region.”
China doesn’t like the idea of these countries working together because they think the group is planning to fight. Austen’s nuclear subs and underwater drones are talked about by Aukus. He also talks about quantum technologies, AI, cybersecurity, and other things.
The prime minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, said that Japan was a reasonable choice for them.
“We’ve already strengthened our defense ties with Japan through agreements I signed with Prime Minister Kishida,” he said. “These include letting Japan use Indian bases.”
Japan has a “very advanced technological industrial base” that they would like to use. However, this does not mean that Japan is joining the group.
Pat Conroy, Australia’s minister for defense industry, said, “Any projects would be about working together on technology when it makes sense for everyone.”
“It’s not about Japan becoming an Aukus member. He went on, “It’s not about Japan being a part of the Five Eyes intelligence community.”
The Defense Minister of Aukus said that working with Japan on defense and getting their help in business will help Aukus improve their defenses and “deter coercion or aggression in the region more effectively.”
