Someone related to the “worst landlord” in New York City is criticized

The people who live there are calling a cousin of New York’s “worst landlord” “inhumane and heartless.” A family member was recently charged with harassing tenants, which brings these new claims to light.

There is a building on Cathedral Parkway that is being talked about. The people who live there think that the owner, Fred Ohebshalom, has let it get worse and now wants to raise the rent to make more money.

He has lived there for more than thirty years and said, “I don’t know where to begin.” A lot of people have been sent away.

Recent problems that renters have talked about include huge flooding, an elevator that doesn’t work very often, and gas that hasn’t worked for over a year, forcing people to cook on camp stoves.

The building’s owner, Ohebshalom, is related to Daniel Ohebshalom, who was just jailed after seven hundred violations were reported at his buildings. His management style has been the subject of stories for years. They say that he did everything from scaring renters to making them live in bad conditions.

People named Anders have sued Ohebshalom’s management company twice. He said, “Over the course of many years, some of the rent-stabilized tenants have left.”

Anders went on, “They’ve all had the same experience I have, which is that they never answer the phone or get back to you about anything.” No one knew what they were doing or not doing because they never told anyone. After they leave, they fix things up and add more people.

Last year, the city sued Ohebshalom, saying that they had broken the law more than 300 times. “The defendants have watched their buildings fall apart to the point where they are now a direct danger to the public and their tenants’ health and safety.” The lawsuit said, “These buildings and the conditions inside them are public nuisances and break City laws that are meant to protect tenants and buildings.”

Tenants are still upset with the management, even though the case has been filed, and they say that things haven’t changed.
