The Arizona Senate is moving forward with a bill that would let them arrest migrants crossing the border illegally

As a result, Arizona senators passed a vote measure that would allow local police to arrest people who are in the country illegally.

The plan would make it a crime for people who are not supposed to be in Arizona to come in from Mexico somewhere other than a port of entry. Also, state judges would be able to give people who are found guilty up to six months in jail for the first crime. After they finish their time in prison, they will be sent back to their home country.

It is already against the law at the federal level to enter the United States without permission. But people who support the law say that since the government isn’t handling the problem, local police should be able to step in.

The Arizona Senate GOP wrote on X, “Democratic lawmakers Katie Hobbs and Joe Biden are failing Arizona.” We feel the same way you do. On November 8, the Secure the Border Act will give you the chance to take border security into your own hands.

People who support immigration have also said that the people who come to Arizona steal identities and use public benefits.

The bill is opposed by Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who said it “will kill jobs, make it harder for law enforcement to keep us safe, and will shame communities of color.” “We will keep working hard to make sure the border is safe, secure, and humane so that we can solve the crisis at hand, but this referral is not the answer,” she said.

After the event, the law was changed to say that it wouldn’t apply to people who came into the state before the law went into effect.
