A woman from Florida saw fraudulent charges to her bank account and decided to take matters into her own hands, according to reports.
The woman went to a WaWa gas station in Stuart where the charges were made and learned that the suspect was a man who drove a white pickup truck.
“The victim had noticed multiple fraudulent charges were made on her bank account that occurred at the WaWa gas station that she did not authorize,” read the Stuart Police Department’s Facebook post. “The victim began to track down the suspect making the fraudulent transactions.”
She returned to the Wawa the next day and reportedly observed the man fueling his truck, then saw him throwing away several credit cards into the trash.
The victim received fraudulent alerts from her bank, which matched the time and location where she was, police said.
When police arrived, they found multiple steel tanks and 28 fraudulent credit or debit cards still in the truck driven by Rosniel Jimenez Gonzalez.
“Detectives responded to the gas station and observed multiple steel tanks in the back of the truck along with other tanks hidden in the bed of the truck,” the post continued. “The tanks laid flat on the bed of the truck and had a carpet placed over the top to conceal the tanks.”
Gonzalez was arrested and charged with trafficking in or possessing counterfeit credit cards, unlawful conveyance of fuel, obtaining fuel by fraud, fraudulent use of credit card more than two times within six months, and unlawful possession of personal ID of five or more persons.
The incident comes as gas prices continue to soar across the U.S., with President Joe Biden doing little to ease consumers’ pain.
Recent poll found that only 21 percent of young Californians ages 18-29 approve of President Joe Biden’s handling of inflation while nearly half of California voters ages 65 do. Additionally, only 26 percent of Californians believe the country is headed in the right direction.
Inflation surged by 8.5 percent year-over-year in March, with the price of food leaping 8.8 percent. While not entirely the reason, the ongoing war in Europe played a role in the surge.
