Mom Fatally Injuries Home Intruder While Her Kids Were Asleep

A Texas mother fatally shot an intruder who broke into her home while her three children were asleep on Thursday, police said.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. at the woman’s home on Kashmuir Place in San Antonio when she heard someone was trying to enter the main door from the laundry room.

That’s when the homeowner saw the burglar, 41-year-old Roman Rodriguez, and shot him twice in the chest.

When police arrived, they found Rodriguez’s bloodied body in the backyard. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Three children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but no one else was physically hurt in the incident.

The unidentified mother is not facing any charges due to the so-called Castle Doctrine, which allows the use of force against another person who is: unlawfully and with force entering or attempts to enter your habitation, vehicle, or workplace.

Similarly, a homeowner in Houston last March also shot and killed an intruder.

According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), the homeowner woke up early in the morning after hearing the back door glass break while he was reportedly alone at the time.

The intruder then went upstairs and opened the door to the bedroom, only to be greeted by the homeowner holding a gun. The homeowner shot the intruder in the neck, cops said.

“A homeowner was asleep up on the second floor of his residence when he heard the backdoor glass break,” said HPD Lieutenant Ignacio Izaguirre. “The intruder went upstairs and also managed to open the door to his bedroom. At that point, the homeowner, seeing the intruder, discharged his firearm striking the intruder in the neck area.”

After being hit, the intruder ran away and started knocking on neighbors’ doors for help but soon died at the scene.

HPD said it is unclear if the intruder was also armed when he entered the residence and it appears that the intruder does not have any prior relationship or acquaintance with the homeowner.

“At this time we don’t believe there will be any charges on the homeowner,” Izaguirre said.
