WH Not Trying to Negotiate With GOP Amid Calls For Gun Regulation

US President Joe Biden was slammed for not trying to coordinate with the GOP amid calls for gun regulation, following the deadly mass shooting in Texas that killed 21 people including 19 children.

More Americans have reportedly died of gun-related incidents, including gun murders and gun suicides according to the recently published statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC also revealed that over 45,222 people died from gun-related injuries in the U.S in 2020.

As a result of the increasing rate of Gun violence across the country, including the horrific Buffalo shooting and deadly mass shooting that killed 21 people in Texas, the US Congress has called for Biden to approve the legislation on gun control immediately.

In addition, Biden has also recently released a series of statements about gun control and discussed possible restrictions on Second Amendment rights.

“I am unable to impose my will on this matter. I am competent to continue doing the things that I have been doing. I will take any executive action that is available to me. However. I don’t have the authority to ban weapons. I cannot modify a background check. That will not work for me.” The president said.

Moreover, to enact any legislation, the president and the Democrats will need at least 10 votes from the Republican lawmakers in the Senate. However, the president has not held talks with the GOP about the gun control bill.

Following Biden’s passive approach in his stance against gun violence, his fellow Democrats who are also against gun violence are reportedly becoming exasperated.

“He cannot just serve in the role of ‘eulogizer in chief.’ In addition to that, he is going to have to invest the whole weight of his presidential office in the process of legislature. Or else, it will look like all hope is lost for him.” Peter Ambler, executive director for Giffords, a firearm safety organization initiated by former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) said.

“If he and the rest of the White House get behind this initiative, I believe he will be able to make a difference.” Ambler added.
