Texas State Lawmaker Prohibit Minors From Attending Drag Shows

Representative Bryan Slaton of Texas has authored a bill that would prohibit minors from attending drag events amidst Pride Month.

‘The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children,” Slaton said in a press release. ”As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show, and I know Speaker [Dade] Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either.”

Slaton said he wants to prohibit children from attending such events, claiming that they ”sexualize” young children.

”I promised my voters that I would stand up for their values and fight to protect Texas Kids,” he said. ”I was re-elected on that promise, and I intend to keep it by authoring legislation to defend kids from being subjected to drag shows and other inappropriate events. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this important legislation.”

This comes after a ”Drag Kids to Pride” show took place at the Mr. Misster bar in Dallas on Saturday, which included performers in drag dancing with children on the stage of the bar.

According to reports, drag queens would take money from some of the children, as well as walk down the aisle with the performers during the event. ‘Drag Kids to Pride’ received backlash from the public, with protests occurring outside the venue.

Similarly, a drag show in Jasper, Indiana was canceled after a TikTok account exposed that the event encouraged children to attend, and also asked for everyone to bring money to give to the drag queens.

“In Jasper, Indiana, a pride event with a drag queen performance is being advertised for all ages and they are encouraging kids to bring cash to tip the drag queens,” the account, called Libs of TikTok, captioned the event on Twitter.

Some LGBTQ supporters directed the blame at Libs of TikTok for simply posting it on Twitter.

“A drag show had to be canceled due to safety and security concerns. Twitter just lets this go on while a campaign of terror is being inflicted on LGBTQ people and orgs,” said one user on the social media website.
