The First Busload Of Illegal Immigrants Arrives In NY From Texas

The first busload of illegal immigrants from Texas has been dropped off in New York City, expanding Gov. Greg Abbott’s operation of transferring immigrants released at the border.

On Friday, a bus carrying more than 50 illegal immigrants arrived at a Port Authority in which they were greeted and brought into the custody of non-governmental charity workers and volunteers.

Abbott said the addition of the bus route to the existing one to Washington is partly due to Mayor Eric Adams declining the governor’s request to visit the southern border.

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” he said in a statement. “In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city.”

Earlier this year, the Republican governor announced that Texas would be sending migrants to Washington, D.C. by bus and plane in response to the Biden administration lifting “Title 42,” a controversial policy implemented by former President Donald Trump back in March 2020 that allowed the U.S. Border Patrol to turn migrants away.

“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden Administration to Washington, DC,” Abbott said at the time.

The U.S. has been seeing massive migrant numbers since the southern border was opened, which has resulted in property damage, stolen vehicles, gun violence, and other issues.

“In my community, we have less than 1,000 residents. The thousand residents everyday live in fear of the invasion,” said Dale Lynn Carruthers, the county judge for Terrell County. “We are doing the best we can with limited manpower. Terrell County has the least to offer… but we have a lot of border coverage.”

“Title 42” has since been used by both the Trump and Biden administration, with the latter arguing that it was necessary to curb the spread of COVID-19 inside border detention facilities.
