Rep. Jackie Walorski and three other individuals were killed in a vehicle accident last week, and the city of Indiana is mourning.
The 58-year-old representative and two other passengers were said to have been traveling south on state highway 19 on Wednesday, the day of the tragic accident. An oncoming automobile to the north swung to the left and smashed with their vehicle. All four occupants of the two cars perished in the collision.
Rep. Jackie Warloski, her communications director Emma Thompson, her staffer Zachery Potts and Edith Schmucker, the female driver of the second vehicle, were all killed in the accident.
Everyone in the city is grieving for these people, and memorial services have been held in their honor.
This news is absolutely devastating. Jackie was a dear friend, trusted advisor, and the embodiment of integrity who achieved the admiration and respect of all her colleagues in the House.

Before her unexpected demise, the congresswoman had a long and successful career. For the first four years of her career, she worked as a television personality for the CBS affiliate in South Bend, Indiana. After that, she was chosen as the executive director of the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, and she also held that position for a few years.
When she relocated to Romania in 2000, she formed her non-profit organization, Impact International, which aims to improve people’s lives in the developing world. Since then, Impact International has worked to ensure that underprivileged children have access to quality medical care. She was also involved in Christian missionary work before entering politics in 2004.
Jackie Warloski was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in her first year as a lawmaker, where she served until her term expired in 2010. In 2010, she ran for Congress but lost by a percentage point (1%). She was courageous enough to run for the position again two years later and be elected.
When her death, Warloski had a sterling reputation as a member of Congress and a key player on the House Ethics Committee. She was also quite involved as a member of the House’s Armed Services, Budget, and Veterans’ Affairs committees. Her death will have a profound impact on the United States. Democratic President Obama verified this in a statement he issued the same day. While he admitted that they belonged to opposing political parties, he also acknowledged that they had significant differences of opinion. He didn’t deny, though, that she was a well-liked and active member of Congress. He then went on to express his admiration for her and his sympathy for her family for their loss.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy resorted to social media to express his condolences and provide updates to the public.
Mike Pence, the former Vice President during Trump’s administration, also paid tribute to the fallen American citizens as the nation mourned together.
It was “a privilege to serve with her for over two decades,” Pence said in a statement. Please join us in remembering and praying for Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson’s families, who sadly lost their lives in the tragedy. Those who knew and adored this inspirational Indiana leader will be in our prayers, as will all of us. God Bless Jackie Walorski.”
