House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had our backing just days ago when she stood up to China, but now it appears she has caved in and is groveling at their feet.
Pelosi brought up China in an interview on NBC’s “Today” show, saying that “our” policy is still the “one China policy,” which recognizes formal relationships with China rather than Taiwan, which China sees as a breakaway province it will one day reabsorb.
She continued by saying China is a “strong democracy” and “one of the freest societies in the world.”

While she does not take credit for Freedom House’s praise of China, Pelosi does. If you look at what the organization has said about China, you can see that it isn’t a fan:
“The ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues to tighten control over all aspects of life and governance, including the state bureaucracy, the media, online speech, religious practice, universities, businesses, and civil society associations, and it has undermined an earlier series of modest rule-of-law reforms. The CCP leader and state president, Xi Jinping, has consolidated personal power to a degree not seen in China for decades.”
China is a communist dictatorship that uses unacceptable force on its people and seizes any chance to do so. Even Hong Kong is not immune; in just a few short weeks, China transformed the once-independent territory into a province under central government rule.
It even resorted to having police kill unarmed protestors.
Pelosi rejected China’s requests and visited Taiwan, which led to this abrupt about-face. Many Americans applauded her, as they felt it was essential to message Chinese authorities that the United States is not hesitant to use its influence in international affairs, including when dealing with China.
China has sanctioned Pelosi and her family and frozen military and climate policy negotiations.
The House Speaker appears to have entirely abandoned her combative attitude towards the Chinese communists and is now content to portray them as nations with a constitutional republic.
Pelosi has caved into the adversary and seemingly lost any remaining patriotism or defiance.
