US Border Security Gone Rogue

Instead of waiting for the Biden administration to construct a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, the state of Arizona has opted to take the initiative and construct its own state-funded wall in order to halt an unprecedented influx of illegal immigration.

In a conference call with reporters on Friday morning, Gov. Doug Ducey’s top advisers declared that construction had started “six minutes ago” on a section of the Yuma, Arizona, border where there are spaces between Trump-era wall projects due to President Joe Biden’s directive to stop construction in January 2021.

This week, the state decided on an unexpected basis to complete the border wall. The state said that neither the Department of Homeland Security nor the White House were aware of this move.

DHS and the White House did not respond to requests for comments.

The state of Arizona has purchased cargo ship containers and is piling the buildings where there are no 30-foot-tall walls. The first project, which is close to a common spot for illegal crossings, will cost $6 million and be finished by next week, according to officials.

On Friday, 60 cargo containers totaling 8,800 pounds apiece were carried in and stacked.

The action was taken a few days after the Biden administration declared that it would abandon a Trump-era policy requiring asylum claimants to stay in Mexico for the entirety of the legal process.

Officials for Ducey said that last year’s attempt by Biden to repeal the Migrant Protection Protocols led to a surge in illegal immigration into Yuma and that they were now taking action in retaliation for his activities.

Ariz. Sen. Mark Kelly (D) said that the U.S. A constructor would be hired by the Department of Homeland Security to close holes in Yuma. According to a staff member in Kelly’s office, the U.S. government intended to award the project’s contract agreement in September.

Due to its distance to Yuma, which has been the most severely affected by illegal immigration, the state started its first initiative nearby. Border patrol agents saw 1,200% more illegal immigrants annually during the government’s fiscal years 2020 to 2021.

The state’s $335 million fund for physical barriers was used for this initial project, which was awarded to a former federal and state contractor with experience working on government projects.

According to the officials, those who want to request asylum can still do so by coming to a point of entry.

The majority of detained migrants are released into the country’s interior, congesting local airports and transport routes. Ducey started offering buses in May to ferry migrants to the East Coast.

By mid-July, 27 buses were transporting more than 1,000 people from the border to Washington, D.C., the departing.
