Former U.S. President Donald Trump said that nuclear war is the “biggest threat” America is facing right now.
Speaking to radio host Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo on Monday, Trump said that the country is not prepared for a potential nuclear war.
“It’s a dangerous time in our country, not only for what’s happening inside with our crooked politicians, but very dangerous when they’re mentioning nuclear weapons on the outside,” Trump told Pagliarulo. “And we don’t have the people that know. We do not have the people that know how to handle it, or know what’s going on.”
“The nuclear thing is the biggest threat,” he concluded.
This comes as the threat of nuclear war has risen dramatically after North Korea declared itself a nuclear power last month.
“As long as nuclear weapons exist on Earth, and imperialism and the anti-North Korean maneuvers of the US and its followers remain, our road to strengthening our nuclear force will never end,” North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to use nuclear weapons against Russia’s enemies late last month, saying: “In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.”
President Joe Biden also echoed Trump’s comments when he said that the risk of “nuclear Armageddon” was at its highest level since 1962 during a Democratic fundraiser last Thursday.
“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis,” Biden said.
Biden also warned that the use of a lower-yield tactical weapon could quickly spiral out of control into global destruction: “I don’t think there’s any such thing as the ability to easily [use] a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.
The U.S. has seen no change in Russia’s nuclear forces that would require a change in the alert posture of U.S. nuclear forces.
“We have not seen any reason to adjust our own strategic nuclear posture, nor do we have indication that Russia is preparing to imminently use nuclear weapons,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said last Tuesday.
