A not-so-shocking report reveals how much First Lady Jill Biden controls her husband, President Joe Biden, within the White House.
According to Lauren A. Wright, a professor at Princeton University who has written extensively about political appearances by first ladies, Jill has become completely involved with the president’s political affairs.
“This role has become so serious and political,” Wright said. “It must be part of the strategic White House planning and effort. Otherwise you’re wasting opportunities.”
Jill is also incredibly protective of her husband, especially when it comes to his public appearances. She was part of the hiring process of his press staff and other senior aides, and has been direct when she believes they have not protected him.
“She pointedly asked the group, which included the president, why nobody stepped in to stop it, according to a person who was in the room. Where was the person, she demanded, who was supposed to end the news conference?” wrote The New York Times, referring to Biden’s disastrous two-hour news conference in January.
The first lady is known to play director when Biden appears lost or confused during public speaking engagements, but this is just a whole new level of helicopter management.
Similar to Joe’s, Jill’s approval rating is also in negative territory. In July, a CNN/SSRS survey found that her favorability among American adults had dropped 24 points in one year.
The survey, which has tracked the first lady’s favorability each year since 2020, pegged her approval rating at 34 percent — down from 58 percent in 2021 and 46 percent in 2020.
Her unpopularity was made apparent recently when Jill was greeted with boos as she took part in the coin toss prior to the matchup between the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.
Jill, a self-proclaimed Eagles fan, was serving as the team’s honorary captain for the game and was also present to promote the Biden administration’s Cancer Moonshot initiative.
People started booing her once they flashed her picture on the big screen. The jeering did not go unnoticed on social media.
“Philly just BOO’d Jill Biden BAD,” tweeted former Eagles tight end Clay Harbor.
“A stadium full of Eagles fans booed Jill Biden tonight, they must all be from the 5 surrounding counties,” wrote Steve Maltepes, a.k.a. The Philly Godfather.
