Liberals are throwing a fit after a National Hockey League (NHL) player refused to wear a Pride jersey.
On Saturday, the San Jose Sharks hosted a Pride Night and wore “special” jerseys designed by a queer artist from the city.
However, goalie James Reimer announced on Twitter that he will not be wearing the Pride-themed jersey, citing that it conflicts with his religious beliefs.
“For all 13 years of my NHL career, I have been a Christian — not just in title, but in how I choose to live my life daily. I have a personal faith in Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins and, in response, asks me to love everyone and follow him,” Reimer said via the team’s Twitter account. “I have no hate in my heart for anyone, and I have always strived to treat everyone that I encounter with respect and kindness.
“In this specific instance, I am choosing not to endorse something that is counter to my personal convictions which are based on the Bible, the highest authority in my life,” he continued.
Thankfully, his team was supportive of Reimer’s decision to uphold his Christian beliefs, saying that they “acknowledge and accept the rights of individuals to express themselves, including how or whether they choose to express their beliefs, regardless of the cause or topic.”
“Our hope is that this content will serve as a reminder that there are issues more important than goals, highlights, and wins,” the team said in a separate statement. “Hockey is not for everyone until everyone is comfortable playing, working, or being a fan of this incredible game.”
This comes as more and more major sports leagues have gone full liberal after caving in to “woke” ideologies.
For instance, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) turned “woke” in June last year when the company posted a tweet in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
“As we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, we acknowledge that recent actions have not aligned with NASCAR’s mission to be a welcoming sport for all. We remain steadfast in our commitment to create a more inclusive environment — in our workplaces, at the race track & in the stands,” the tweet read, along with a photo of the Pride flag.
