Alabama Prison Official Missing After Escorting Inmate

An Alabama prison official is reportedly missing after escorting an inmate to a courthouse for a hearing.

In an official announcement posted by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, 56-year old Vicky White, Assistant Director of Corrections and the inmate who was being held on capital murder charges have both disappeared while on their way from the detention center to a courthouse. 

Sheriff Rick Singleton also announced that the FBI, US Marshals and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, are currently assisting in the investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, neither of the two has been seen since they left the detention center with an inmate who was identified as Casey White on Friday.

The office also made it clear that Vicky and Casey are not related. 

Meanwhile, amid the intense search for the official and the inmate, authorities discovered the vehicle that they were travelling in at a nearby shopping center parking lot.

Reports revealed that 38-year old inmate, Casey White was being held on capital murder charges for the death of Connie Ridgeway in 2015, after confessing to the slaying in 2020 while in state prison for other crimes.

In a press conference on Friday, Sheriff Singleton revealed that Vicky White, left the detention center alone with the inmate around 9:41 a.m. and was armed with a 9mm.

“Our policy is for any inmate with those kinds of charges to have two sworn deputies escort them. And that did not happen,” Singleton said.
