Matt Taibbi, a reporter for the New York Times, has spoken out about the problems with how the paper reported on Biden. Taibbi said that the White House shouldn’t expect their website to only have positive stories about the government.
He said, “The administration has continued to think that The New York Times does not worship Joe Biden enough.” “I don’t know what planet they’re living on,” he said next.
Further, he said that the stories are mostly positive and there isn’t much bad news in them. He said that a security guard at The Times had said nice things about Biden and was then asked to do an appearance with the president. People at Taibbi say this is what they expect as a news outlet in order to get along with them.
That was “really petty stuff,” Taibbi said. “Reporters don’t expect fancy treatment.” At least they didn’t when I was writing about the White House. I don’t know what they’re following.
CEO of the New York Times Joe Kahn said that their job is to cover all kinds of problems and topics, not just one side. The news organization and the White House have had several disagreements in the past few months, including the Times’ view that the president doesn’t have enough access to the media and Biden’s team’s view that the Times is focusing on the wrong problems.
“We become an instrument of the Biden campaign?” asked Joe Khan. We become like Xinhua or Pravda and flood the world with news that is only good for them, while we only write bad things about the other side? And what good would that do?”
