Russia has kept up its strong strikes on Ukraine. The most recent one happened on Tuesday and hit Kyiv. We had one escalated-targeted attack before, which made us think that many more were on the way.
This attack could set the tone for the rest of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2024. It went on for four hours and included the launch of 35 Iranian-made drones and 12 ballistic missiles.
There were attacks in Kyiv, the capital, and Kharkiv, two of the largest towns in Ukraine. At least 5 people were killed and 101 were hurt. The site of these airstrikes was planned, and it looked like they were meant to hurt Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry says they went after “depots storing missiles, ammunition, and air-launched weapons supplied by the West,” as well as missile and drone plants in Ukraine.
“The strike achieved its goal. “Every target was hit,” he said. As the New Year starts, Russia continues to target civilians in its attacks and sends more troops to Syria.
Russia had already fired 9 missiles and used 49 drones to attack residential areas in Ukraine over the weekend. There are signs that Russia is focusing on civilians and making its strikes stronger.
But they said Ukraine was behind a strike in Belgorod, Russia, on Saturday that killed 21 people. Russian President Vladimir Putin called it a “terrorist attack.”
The man said, “Of course, it is a terror attack; there is no other way to describe it.” He also said that these attacks would “not go unpunished.” In the day before this attack, he said those things.
It is becoming more and more clear that the threats from Russia could get worse and that people need to help Ukraine more than ever. Ukraine needs to push for better air defense because they don’t think Russia will back down any time soon, especially since Russia is still attacking with missiles.
There is no end in sight for the war between Russia and Ukraine just yet. Things are only going to get worse over the next few months, which will set a very bad tone for 2024.
