Army Soldier Aims To Rescue Desperate Dog That Snuck Onto Base

An Army soldier is trying to get an innocent puppy out of a warzone after sneaking onto an overseas base, according to reports.

U.S. Army Specialist Howe, who is currently deployed overseas, was surprised when he spotted a small dog who snuck onto the base.

According to Paws of War, a New York-based animal rescue nonprofit, the little puppy ran through a gate and immediately clung to Howe. The scared pup was seeking shelter from the dangerous conditions of the area outside.

“It was as if he knew me,” Howe said.

The soldier then named the puppy Doc and gave him food and water. Since then, Doc refuses to leave Howe’s side and has given the whole camp a “much-needed morale boost,” Paws of War said in a statement.

“He walks around his newfound family members, wagging his tail and giving kisses in exchange for a few belly rubs,” the nonprofit said.

The serviceman then contacted Paws of War to help bring Doc to the U.S., to which the organization happily obliged.

Doc is currently being kept in foster care while he awaits a flight out to Kentucky, Howe’s home state.

“Doc may be just one dog overseas, but it’s one dog’s life that we can change and prevent his soldier from feeling the guilt of having to leave him behind,” said Robert Misseri, co-founder of Paws of War, which has brought over 300 dogs and cats to safety in the U.S. since 2014.

Most recently, Misseri’s group was also contacted by a soldier deployed in the Middle East to help transport a dog out of the country so it could finally live a happy life in America.

U.S. Army Sgt. Macintire requested help from Paws of War to move his precious puppy, CJ, back home to his family in Utah.

Macintire, who is on his 15th deployment overseas, found CJ while on patrol with other soldiers. The puppy was with its mother and a protective adult male dog.

“My family is so excited,” the soldier said, adding that his “kids have even cleaned up our yard and made sure there were no holes in the fence.”
