An Army veteran compares the southern border to a third-world country and says conditions are “out of control.”
During an interview on “Fox & Friends First,” former military and founder of “Great American Cleanup” John Rourke described what he had witnessed on his group’s trip to clean up the border.
“The amount of clothes and shoes, medical waste and human waste that’s scattered all over the border is out of control,” he told host Carley Shimkus. “Illegals are walking up and down the road all over the place or at every gas station begging for money. It’s like a third-world country down on the border.”
Rourke said that the swarm of illegal immigrants has resulted in property damage, particularly to private ranch owners.
“We cleaned up a private ranch owner’s land two days ago,” he said. “His cattle and goats that are eating plastic, eating clothes. He lost a goat, he lost a cow. He was telling me that he used to be able to enjoy the Rio Grande on his land, and now it’s just covered in trash.”
It’s tragic. I mean, we’re talking about an American citizen who’s worked his whole life to be able to provide for his family and buy that property. And he’s trapped in his own property right now,” Rourke continued.
He went on to condemn President Joe Biden for his failed border policies, adding that his organization was able to raise $10,000 and donated the money to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office to “shine a light” on how bad the crisis is.
“Citizens like myself, we need to start putting country first and giving back more,” Rourke said.
The U.S. has been seeing massive migrant numbers since the Biden administration announced last April that it would be lifting “Title 42,” a controversial border policy implemented by former President Donald Trump back in March 2020 that allowed the border agency to turn migrants away.
This comes as the Customs and Border Protection reported recently that the southern border had 199,976 migrant encounters in July, totaling 1.946 million migrant encounters this year.
Based on the projected data, the total count of illegal immigrants encountered for this year has already crossed the two million mark, the highest it has ever been even though the fiscal year is yet to be completed.
