Bernie Sanders Uses Super Bowl Tweet To Push Biden To Cancel Student Debt

After seeing how much SoFi paid to advertise during the Super Bowl, Senator Bernie Sanders called on President Joe Biden to remove student loan debt.

Sander’s post on Twitter during the first quarter of the game said, “How does it happen that SoFI, a student loan refinancing company, could spend $625 million to put its name on the LA Rams football stadium when 45 million Americans are drowning in $1.8 trillion in student debt? Today would be a good day for the President to cancel student debt.”

As one of the most vocal advocates for eliminating student loan debt, Sanders suggested a proposal in 2019 to abolish all $1.6 trillion in student debt accumulated by Americans via a Wall Street bank tax.

Sanders believes that with this proposal, every American citizen will be able to access a college education despite their financial standing, and he promises that education will be treated as a fundamental right.

Not alone with his advocacy, Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) have all called on President Biden to issue an executive order forgiving students’ debts.

Joe Biden called for the cancellation of up to $10,000 in student loan debt for each debtor if elected President. However, a recent survey found that people have little faith in his ability to fulfill this campaign pledge in 2022.

59% of the masses believe he will make little or no movement toward student debt relief in the future, while a minority of 21% of Americans say Biden will make “some” or “a lot” of progress toward student loan forgiveness this year.
