Biden’s Border Chief Blames GOP for Illegal Immigration Crisis

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas directed the blame toward Republicans for promoting illegal immigration by telling people the southern border is “open”.

“I’ve got a lot of work to do, and I intend to continue to do it. That’s my response,” Mayorkas told the Dallas Morning News on Friday. “The political cry that the border is open is music to the smugglers’ ears, because they take that political rhetoric and they market it.”

Mayorkas came under severe scrutiny from Republican lawmakers recently after emails obtained by the Heritage Foundation via FOIA filing revealed that the homeland security secretary knew that no Haitian migrants were “whipped” by Border Patrol agents on Sept. 19, 2021.

The email, which was sent on Sept. 24, 2021, by Marsha Espinosa, assistant secretary of DHS public affairs, alerted Mayorkas to a news article with quotes from a photographer behind the images showing Border Patrol agents on horseback, and he denies ever seeing agents “whipping anyone.”

However, Mayorkas joined White House press secretary Jen Psaki at a White House press conference, where he continued to propagate the false narrative:

“Our nation saw horrifying images that do not reflect who we are. We know that those images painfully conjured up the worst elements of our nation’s ongoing battle against systemic racism,” he said.

Republican lawmakers have been calling for Mayorkas to resign, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who accused him of failing his duties to uphold the law and maintain control of the southern border.

“What’s more important than something that happened 15 months ago on a private conversation with about four other people is what’s happening here right now,” McCarthy said in April. “This is his moment in time to do his job. But at any time, if someone is derelict in their job, there is always the option of impeaching somebody.”

Former President Donald Trump also urged the GOP to impeach Mayorkas if they regain control of the House in the midterm elections next month.

“After we win this November, Republicans should immediately vote to remove Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security from office for his blatant acts of sabotage against the laws of the United States,” Trump said during a rally in North Carolina earlier this month. “And then, we should continue to work hard until the borders are sealed.”
