Three American soldiers, all from Georgia, were killed in a drone strike in Jordan on Sunday. The military and political leaders are now thinking about how to get back at the militants backed by Iran who are thought to be behind the drone attack.
An American soldier was killed in this drone strike. It was the first death of a U.S. soldier since the attack on October 7. So, people in power are waiting for the Biden Administration to step up and make plans to punish the country that sent the drone strikes. US sources are said to have said that the attack hit Tower 22, an American outpost in Jordan that is close to the border with Syria.
They said that three U.S. soldiers were killed and around thirty were hurt in the attack.
This has caused a lot of trouble for the White House because they are helping Israel fight Hamas. However, they are trying to keep things under control because they don’t want the Middle East war to get any worse.
At this point, Iran hasn’t said anything about the strikes and hasn’t said whether they were their fault or not. Chief of Staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General CQ Brown Jr., spoke out and said he didn’t think Iran wanted to start a war with the US.
Republicans in Congress are angry that the Biden Administration hasn’t done anything about the attacks, and many of them want quick action to be taken against Iran.
On X, Mike Johnson, the Republican House Speaker from Louisiana, wrote, “We are saddened by the deaths of three American heroes in Jordan last night. We are praying for their families and for the other service members who have been hurt.” The United States needs to make it very clear to everyone around the world that attacks on our troops will not be accepted.
The Democratic House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, felt the same way. He wrote on X, “Heartbroken and outraged by the deaths of three U.S. service members and the injuries of many others during the horrific terrorist attack in the Middle East.” I’m praying hard for everyone who is touched. Every single bad person who is to blame must be held responsible.
Other government leaders spoke out and said they wanted Biden to focus on important issues for the country. Some of them think that Iran will not stop being aggressive and pushing for violence in other countries, so killing targets might not get Iran to do what they want.
