Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who stepped down amid accusations of sexual harassment in August 2021, currently faces a new legal challenges and controversies.
A recent startling disclosure from his former top aide, Howard Glaser, has further complicated Cuomo’s legal entanglements.
Glaser asserts that Cuomo threatened to tarnish the reputation of his wife, Karen Hinton, should she speak out about the sexual harassment allegations against him.
The revelation comes at a time when Cuomo is grappling with a federal lawsuit filed by a female state trooper who accuses him of inappropriate behavior.
According to court documents submitted in Brooklyn federal court, Howard Glaser recounted a phone conversation with Cuomo in June during which the former governor purportedly warned of sullying Karen Hinton’s reputation if she discussed her sexual harassment claims against him.
Cuomo warned that “if she goes there [referring to sexual harassment claims against defendant Cuomo], there’s stuff on her that will come out. They have material on Karen that’s not good for her, the kind of thing she wouldn’t want her children to see.” Glaser claimed.
Karen Hinton’s attorney, Carrie Cohen, documented these allegations in the court filing, expressing concerns about Cuomo’s apparent use of the legal process to intimidate and harass women who have accused him of sexual harassment.
Cuomo’s legal team issued a subpoena to Karen Hinton, requesting a substantial volume of documents related to the ongoing federal lawsuit initiated by the state trooper who alleges Cuomo’s misconduct.
In response to the explosive claims made by Glaser and Hinton’s lawyer, Cuomo’s spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, countered by suggesting that it was Hinton who had threatened to unveil detrimental information about the former governor during the legal proceedings.
Azzopardi contended that there were multiple conversations with Glaser, who sought to have the subpoena against his wife dropped.
He also argued that Karen Hinton had attempted to capitalize on the situation by writing a book that Cuomo’s camp characterized as containing false information about the former governor and publicly engaging with individuals relevant to the lawsuit.
In her book, titled “Penis Politics,” Hinton made explicit claims about Cuomo’s conduct, alleging inappropriate discussions about his relationships, including the Kennedys, and past inappropriate behavior towards her more than two decades ago.
