Democrats Throw 5-Minute Temper Tantrum After Schiff Censure Vote

House Democrats expressed outrage over the censure of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for his involvement in spreading misinformation about the Trump-Russia collusion allegations and his handling of the investigation into alleged Biden family corruption in Ukraine.

“Democrats throw a 5 minute temper tantrum in the well of the House chamber as the vote to censure Adam Schiff passes, yelling ‘shame’ at Kevin McCarthy and refusing to allow him to finish reading the resolution,” journalist Greg Price wrote.

The reaction of House Democrats has drawn comparisons to a scene from the television series “Game of Thrones,” where a character undergoes a public shaming.

The House of Representatives voted in favor of censuring Schiff on Wednesday night. The vote saw 213 Republicans in favor of censure, with four voting “present” and six abstaining. Meanwhile, Democrats voted against the censure, with 209 opposing it and four abstaining.

As part of the censure process, Schiff will be required to stand on the House floor while House Speaker Kevin McCarthy reads a brief statement regarding the censure.

Efforts to censure Schiff faced an initial procedural challenge earlier in the day, but a vote to dismiss the legislation failed.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, led the effort with a revised measure focusing on Schiff’s role in the Russia probe and his investigations into Trump. A previous attempt to censure Schiff had not succeeded.

In addition, the resolution accuses Schiff, who formerly served as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of misleading the American public during the congressional investigation into Russia and the Trump campaign. It also criticizes his actions leading up to Trump’s first impeachment. Schiff has dismissed these allegations as false and defamatory.

Schiff, who is currently running for a US Senate seat in California, called the move to censure him “a badge of honor” and suggested that it was motivated by his effectiveness. He argued that wasting time on what he considers to be a baseless resolution is a disservice to the country.

During his tenure as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Schiff conducted a thorough investigation into President Trump’s finances and the Russia matter.

However, he has been criticized for making multiple false statements, including claims of possessing undeniable evidence of treasonous collusion between Trump and the Russians.

Moreover, Schiff played a significant role as the lead House impeachment manager during Trump’s first impeachment, presenting the case for his removal from office during the Senate trial. Ultimately, the Senate acquitted Trump.

The censure of Schiff has sparked a heated debate between Democrats and Republicans, with Democrats denouncing the move as partisan and Republicans asserting the need for accountability and truthfulness in Congress.
