Dems Seeing Backlash Against Ultra-Liberal Politics

According to the party’s top leaders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other members of the so-called “Squad” are causing an adverse reaction among Democrats.

Democratic plans to defund the police, rename schools, and remove monuments have placed a significant roadblock in the way of keeping control of Congress, according to Axios’ reports.

Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, and Ayanna Pressley are all members of “The Squad” in the House of Representatives.

When three San Francisco Board of Education members were unanimously recalled this week, Axios reported that this was just another indicator that this kind of politics was backfiring.

Recall operations were initially launched in January 2021 by parents in a liberal community who were frustrated by the tardy reopening of schools and by the board’s consideration of 44 school site renamings and the abolition of competitive admissions at the prestigious Lowell High School.

According to Axios, the decision to rename 44 schools in honor of people associated with acts of misogyny, racism and other forms of oppression was the subject of much discussion throughout the country. These schools include those dedicated to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

As a result, Axios has found increasing evidence that the progressive activity on The Squad has moved the Democratic Party’s image to the left of where most voters are, which might put the party’s quest to keep control of Congress in peril.

Matt Bennett, the co-founder of the center-left Third Way, which recently created a political action committee to support moderate Democrats, echoed this sentiment, “It’s what we’ve been screaming about for a year.”

Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., warned that the Democratic Party threatened to collapse in rural America. Cooper has stated that he will not run for re-election in November.

He told AP news, “It’s hard to sink lower than we are right now. You’re almost automatically a pariah in rural areas if you have a D after your name.”

“We’re letting Republicans use the language of the far left to define the Democratic Party, and we can’t do that. The trend lines in rural America are very, very bad. Now, the brand is so toxic that people who are Democrats, the ones left, aren’t fighting for the party,” Ex-Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, Democrat of North Dakota, said.

An accountant in rural Pennsylvania’s McKean County, Tim Holohan, also commented, “The hatred for Democrats is just unbelievable. I feel like we’re on the run.”
