As part of an effort to tighten border control, the Biden Administration earlier came up with a plan to send migrants back to Venezuela by plane. Since this was put in place, there have been fewer problems with migrants and better control of the borders. However, new problems at the southern border have made things more difficult.
Some people in the Biden Administration say that the flights are an important part of the plan and help keep things in check, which is why they want more removal flights. After a record month of more than 300,000 encounters in December, this was done because of the current problems at the Southern Border.
Because of this, another country has stepped up to start the same process of deportations to help keep the borders safe. After the US, Mexico has started flying to Venezuela, which is a good thing that the US supports. A lot of important people in the government said in a meeting on Tuesday how thankful they are that Mexico has recently started flying to Venezuela.
As for Mexico’s border control, one of the officials said, “We’ve seen them step up in terms of taking action, and that’s been greatly appreciated.”
When Mexico opens up its borders, it will make room for new ports, like the ones in Eagle Pass, TX, and Lukeville, AZ.
After a record-setting year of over 2.4 million meetings with migrants in 2023, programs and rules like these will help keep things under control. A lot of officials and state representatives want the Biden Administration to do something about the large number of migrants coming into their cities. They want government funding and help controlling the number of migrants.
To keep up the fight for better border control, the Administration has been talking to Congress about getting more money, which would include a $14 million border budget. We can expect more flights because this is a big part of their plan and a useful part for making a difference as they try to get back in control after months and years of a lot of migrants coming through.
