Former NFL player Vontae Davis was arrested on Saturday for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to reports.
Fox Sports 640’s Andy Slater reported that Davis “allegedly crashed into a disabled car on the side of the highway, which then hit a person next to it.”
Florida Highway Patrol officers then allegedly found the ex-cornerback sleeping, and when they asked why he was sleeping on the shoulder, Davis replied, “I was tired.”
According to Slater, Davis claimed he was returning home after drinking two mixed drinks at a party. The person Davis allegedly struck was brought to a hospital with “multiple injuries.”
Davis, a former first-round pick of the Dolphins in 2009, spent his first three seasons in Miami before a 2012 trade sent him to the Colts. The majority of his career was spent with Indianapolis, while he briefly and contentiously appeared with the Bills in 2018 by signing as a free agent in the offseason and then leaving at halftime of the season opener.
He was also selected to consecutive Pro Bowls in 2014 and ’15, a pair of seasons when he combined for eight interceptions, 34 passes defended, and two forced fumbles.
“This isn’t how I pictured retiring from the NFL,” he wrote in a statement at the time. “But today on the field, reality hit me and hard. I shouldn’t be out there anymore.”
Similarly, former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was also taken into custody in Las Vegas after police found him asleep in his car last August.
“Officer Parker observed that Mr. Lynch would speak and then fall back asleep several times throughout the encounter,’ read the the Las Vegas Metro Police Department report.. “Officer Parker also observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle, his person, and his breath along with bloodshot, watery eyes and had one shoe on and one shoe off.”
“Mr. Lynch stated he was not drinking and he does not do drugs, but that he stole the vehicle,” the report continued. “Officer Parker asked if Mr. Lynch would exit the vehicle and Mr. Lynch refused and became uncooperative.”
Bodycam footage also showed officers pulling Lynch out of his car and placing him under arrest.
