Florida Department of Health spokesperson scolded Rachel Maddow of MSNBC for cutting off his statement about state’s surgeon general nominee, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, on Thursday.
Maddow started her program tackling the issue about America’s Frontline Doctors, a group that actively advertised the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients with a video that went viral in 2020. However, recent studies have proved in contrast to the featured data in the video called “the most recent example of misinformation that has spread” of the mentioned group.

The left-wing host went on with her program citing Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida choosing Dr. Joseph Ladapo, a prominent figure in 2020 America’s Frontline Doctors, to be the new surgeon general of Florida. She added that Dr. Ladapo became famous for “treating many many COVID-19 patients as frontline doctors” but the doctor was notorious for sharing misleading information about his experience in treating COVID-19 patients.
“The press secretary for the Florida Department of Health responded by calling our request comment ‘cute.’ That was an actual quote,” Maddow said she displayed a portion of what the Press Secretary said in his statement.
Press secretary Redfern posted a tweet about Maddow’s show stating that she cutted off his entire statement that originally says, “Thanks for reaching out to ask about this unsubstantiated conspiracy theory. It’s cute that you’re asking for a comment at 8:21 pm, 39 minutes before your deadline, expecting that I wouldn’t respond. I’m willing to bet that your show prep is already done, and your story is already written.” A statement that does not really answer an integral context in the program.
The Democrats in legislature, heavily disappointed with the news and responses about the decision, walked out of the hearing saying that they are not going to vote to confirm Ladapo.
