Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, has issued a warning to migrants after a busload of migrants from Texas arrived at the U.S. Capitol and claimed they wanted to travel to Miami.
To deter illegal immigration, Florida has released a statement that they will not welcome them into the state.
After the expiration of the Title 42 order takes effect next month, the current surge of migrants near the United States’ southern border is projected to worsen.
Some illegal immigrants are being transported from Texas to the nation’s capital.
In a directive issued last week to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Republican Governor Greg Abbott said: “I, therefore, authorize the TDEM to begin arranging the voluntary transportation to Washington, D.C.” and other destinations outside the state.
Migrants who landed in Washington, DC, from Texas informed Fox News that they intend to go to Miami, Florida.
The executive office of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a message to Fox News encouraging illegal immigrants not to travel to the Sunshine State.
“Do not come to Florida if you entered the United States illegally. Even if our federal government and other states don’t, we are compelled to maintain the immigration laws of our nation,” the office informed Fox News. “Because Florida is a non-sanctuary state, the state’s social services are designed to help all of its residents. When it comes to protecting Florida’s independence, the governor will do all he can.”
“The Biden administration has done you a disservice if you are here illegally. They’ve pushed you to go on perilous journeys, frequently at the expense of your own and your family’s health. Putting your life in the hands of deadly coyotes and human traffickers has been necessary at times, “added the statement. “The promise of America is based on the notion that there is a legal path to full American citizenship. At the state of Florida, we will follow the law.”
Even some Democrats are against the Biden administration’s attempt to repeal Title 42.
Joe Manchin of West Virginia said earlier this month that Title 42 has been a “vital weapon” in combatting the spread of COVID-19 and limiting the flow of migrants at our southern border.”There will be an even higher inflow of migrants this year as a result of the administration’s decision to end Title 42. We are ill-equipped to handle such a large inflow. In the absence of comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform that commits to protecting our borders and provides a road to citizenship for qualified immigrants, Title 42 must remain in effect.”
DeSantis’ stance has come as no surprise.
Earlier this month, Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted the Biden administration for ending Title 42 amid concerns of a new surge in illegal immigration at the southern border. DeSantis was elected governor in 2016. Title 42 has been in effect since March 2020, allowing border officers to remove migrants who seek to enter the United States rapidly.
