Florida Man Tries To Outrun Deputies On Riding Lawnmower

A Florida man who avoided deputies earlier this year by diving into a swamp was caught on Saturday after he tried using a riding lawn mower as a getaway vehicle, police said.

40-year-old Dusy Mobley of Holt was located around 9:30 a.m. at a home on Pasco Broxson Circle, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. He reportedly kicked a John Deere riding lawn mower “into high gear” and tried to flee the scene.

The chase ended when deputies shot Mobley with stun guns. He was wanted on warrants related to the theft of a $40,000 boat in January.

“When taken into custody Mobley had a revolver and a handcuff key in his possession, along with a pipe with methamphetamine residue,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Mobley was taken into custody and found in possession of a revolver, a handcuff key, and a pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, deputies said.

County jail records for Mobley showed he faces a slew of charges, including resisting an officer, obstructing police, possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, drug equipment possession, and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Mobley is being held without bond at the Okaloosa County Jail. His hometown, Holt, is about 40 miles northeast of Pensacola, in Florida’s panhandle.

In related news, Republican prosecutor Melissa Nelson of Florida has helped reduce murders by 30 percent and shootings went down by 17 percent in 2021, compared to 2020.

Nelson’s plan includes tying gun violence with the display of weapons in musical videos and seeking harsh punishment for those involved in violent gun crimes, which has led to low homicide rates, compared to the nearby areas and other states.

“After experiencing a substantial downturn in violent gun crime in 2021, we continue to work together to combat violent crime in hopes that this trend continues,” Nelson, told reporters. “Currently, we remain on par with last year’s numbers. Improving public safety and fighting violent crime remains a top priority for our office and law enforcement partners.”

The National Police Association has shown approval of the prosecutor’s aggressive plan, saying that the statistics show that her policies are working.
