Former NFL Player Marshawn Lynch Accused Of DUI

Former NFL player Marshawn Lynch is facing multiple charges, including suspicion of DUI, after being arrested in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The former Seattle Seahawks running back was taken into custody after police found him asleep behind the wheel of a Shelby GT500, noting that Lynch’s car was in an “undriveable condition.”

According to the report provided by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD), the front wheel and rim on the driver’s side of the car were missing with the front tire on the passenger side also almost falling off.

“Officer Parker observed that Mr. Lynch would speak and then fall back asleep several times throughout the encounter,’ read the report. “Officer Parker also observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle, his person, and his breath along with bloodshot, watery eyes and had one shoe on and one shoe off.”

“Mr. Lynch stated he was not drinking and he does not do drugs, but that he stole the vehicle,” the report continued. “Officer Parker asked if Mr. Lynch would exit the vehicle and Mr. Lynch refused and became uncooperative.”

Body cam footage also showed officers pulling the 36-year-old out of his car and placing him under arrest.

“What is the problem?” Lynch asked, according to the video. “The car’s not on, the car’s not going.”

Lynch is now facing a total of four charges from the arrest, including DUI, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to stay in his lane, and failure to surrender. His bail was set at $3,381 and is scheduled to appear in court this December.

“Through the course of the investigation, officers determined that Lynch was impaired and conducted an arrest. Lynch was transported to the Las Vegas City Jail and booked for driving under the influence,” tweeted the LVMPD.

Meanwhile, Lynch’s attorneys, Richard A. Schonfeld and David Z. Chesnoff, said that their client shouldn’t have been charged with DUI.

“Marshawn was not pulled over for a DUI,” the attorneys said. “Rather the vehicle was safely parked and not in operation. We are confident that when all evidence is presented, this will not be a DUI under Nevada law. Marshawn appreciates and is thankful for everyone’s concern and support.”
