South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau of Georgia has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a lake house he desired and confronting the terrified homeowner, uttering the words, “Do you know who the f–k I am?”
The incident, as reported by both the victim and the police, unfolded on Saturday, prompting the homeowner to contact law enforcement around 6:52 a.m. regarding a trespasser at his property on Cascade Palmetto Highway.
According to the homeowner, while he was on the phone with the police, Kamau repeatedly shouted at him.
“Do you know who the f–k I am? I’m the mayor, and I’ll wait for my police to get here and see what happens then,” Kamau allegedly said.
The mayor, however, has refrained from commenting on the incident and instead expressed his appreciation for the prompt response of the South Fulton Police Department.
“I do want to thank the South Fulton police and the staff of officers for their courteous and professional service throughout the day,” he said.
During questioning by the officers, Kamau allegedly disclosed that he was en route to a dog park but decided to stop by the house because it was his dream home and he aspired to purchase it one day. The police report indicates that Kamau admitted to being aware that he was trespassing on the homeowner’s property, despite initially believing that the residence was “abandoned,” as he told FOX 5 Atlanta.
The homeowner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, reported witnessing the mayor approach his lake house after walking up the driveway. Reacting swiftly, the homeowner quickly dressed and contacted the authorities from inside his truck.
The homeowner then approached Kamau, holding him at gunpoint until the arrival of the police, instructing the mayor to remain where he was, according to the police report.
Kamau purportedly claimed that he apologized to the homeowner and explained his identity. However, when warned by the homeowner to wait for the police, Kamau allegedly responded, “Are you going to shoot me while I’m walking away?”
The mayor has been charged with criminal trespass and first-degree burglary. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Fulton County Jail with a bond set at $11,000, and he was subsequently released.
City officials have indicated that the investigation into the matter is ongoing. At this time, no additional details regarding the case have been provided.
“The city of South Fulton is committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the same fair and just treatment,” officials said in a statement.
