A truck driver struck a climate protester while the activist was sitting in the middle of a busy roadway, obstructing traffic.
The shocking incident in Stralsund, Germany was caught on camera and went viral, sparking public outrage on social media platforms.
According to the report, the violent encounter occured earlier this month when the frustrated truck driver stepped out of his truck and threw the two protesters aside.
In the video, the activists can be seen sitting directly in front of the truck while holding a poster placed between them, which obstructed the traffic at the time.
Visibly angry, the driver then shoved one protester to the ground and went back to his truck. As the activists continued to protest, the driver accelerated the truck, pushing one of the demonstrators forward a few feet before ultimately stopping the truck.
In a report published by the New York Post, it was revealed that the protest involved six members of the “Last Generation” climate action group, with two of them reportedly using glue to attach themselves to the street, making it challenging for authorities to remove them, according to German media reports.
The report also claimed that the demonstration was meant to oppose the government’s plans to construct liquefied natural gas terminals along the Baltic Sea coast.
Moreovee, the blockade caused significant traffic congestion on the Heinrich-Heine-Ring, a busy route used by approximately 20,000 drivers daily, which likely contributed to the driver’s growing frustration.
After the violent encounter, the driver dragged the struck protester to the side of the road before speeding past the protest scene.
Following the heated altercation, the police arrived, attempting to de-escalate the situation and manage the tense atmosphere. They successfully removed the two protesters who had used glue to attach themselves to the road.
Moreover, the authorities have also launched an investigation into the truck driver’s actions, which have raised concerns about the safety of peaceful protesters and the potential consequences of confrontations between demonstrators and those affected by their actions.
In a separate report, a woman, dubbed as a “brutal blond,” was also caught on camera, dragging a climate change activist off the road by her hair. Reports revealed that the activist also blocked the traffic at the time which had also contributed to the woman’s growing frustration.
